An October 2024 discussion included advice to stay overnight because the lanterns begin after dark, and a later commenter confirmed attending and enjoying the festival; another completed visitor found the festival large enough to justify two nights; and a visitor to the 2023 edition walked the river in the afternoon, rested, then returned to the fortress and riverside after dark. Those experiences support an unhurried evening, but the official site remains authoritative for the next edition.
Jinju is easiest to plan when the fortress and museum occupy the daytime and the riverside festival gets its own evening block. The official Namgang Lantern Festival notices and Jinju National Museum visitor information were checked again on October 20, 2026. Unverified restaurant names, prices, transport figures and first-person visit claims have been removed.
The short answer: fortress by day, an open evening during the festival
On an ordinary visit, pair Jinju Fortress, Chokseoknu Pavilion and Jinju National Museum as one heritage block, then treat the river and market as another. The 2026 Namgang Lantern Festival ran October 3–18 and has ended. The fortress-and-museum route remains useful year-round; for a future edition, wait for a new official notice before fixing an evening schedule.

The National Museum is inside Jinju Fortress. Its official visitor page lists non-resident adult fortress admission at KRW 2,000, youth/military at KRW 1,000 and elementary-school children at KRW 600, with exemptions listed separately. Recheck eligibility and fees on the visit date.
