Pohang’s outer coast and city waterfront do not belong in one rushed day. For a first car-free visit, keep the route inside the city: Jukdo Market → Yeongildae → Hwanho Park Space Walk. Homigot and Guryongpo need a separate outer-coast day or a driver.

Entry is free. The structure admits up to 150 people at once and visitors under 110 cm cannot enter. It closes on the first Monday of each month; when that Monday is a public holiday, closure moves to the next day. Rain closes access, and the city specifies closure at wind speeds of 8 m/s or more. The city also warns that same-day operation may not be confirmed away from the site, so treat the gate notice as final.

A timed city route

This sample uses planning allowances rather than pretending traffic is fixed. Re-run every leg in Naver Map on the day.

  • 09:30: arrive at Pohang Station. Allow 30 minutes for exit and a taxi or current city bus to Jukdo Market.
  • 10:00–12:00: market meal and a short walk. Check the chosen stall’s displayed price before ordering.
  • 12:00–13:00: transfer toward Yeongildae; allow 30 minutes even when the live route is shorter.
  • 13:00–15:00: beach and pavilion area.
  • 15:00–15:45: transfer to Hwanho Park and walk uphill to Space Walk.
  • 15:45–17:15: queue and visit if the gate is open. In the November–March weekday season, move this block earlier because closing is 17:00.
  • 17:15 onward: return to the station only after checking the actual road time against the reserved train. Keep at least one hour between leaving Hwanho Park and the train.

This route intentionally leaves out Homigot and Guryongpo. Adding them creates a long outer-coast transfer and removes the weather margin at Space Walk.

What completed visitors add

One visitor posted photographs from the structure and from the beach after dark; a separate commenter in that thread called it a favorite Pohang stop. Another visitor explained that the loop itself is not walkable and visitors return along the branch they entered. A third described the city view from the top. These accounts help set expectations; the city page still controls access, closures and height rules.

Go / no-go checklist

  • Check the first-Monday rule and public-holiday exception.
  • Check rain and wind before leaving the previous stop, then obey the gate notice.
  • Use the real structure name Hwanho Park Space Walk, not the separate coastal skywalk.
  • If Space Walk closes, keep Yeongildae and the market; do not race to the outer coast as a last-minute substitute.
