For a first solo day, choose between a slower palace-and-lane sequence and a single Gyeongbokgung–Seochon axis.

Choose Changdeokgung, Insadong and Ikseondong
This sequence suits a solo traveller who wants traditional streets, small lanes and flexible meal or café pauses. Treat Ikseondong as a place to stop, not another checklist of venues.
Published Seoul itinerary notes group palace and Insadong time into one area, but the actual pace depends on your starting point and how long you stay inside each place.

Choose Gyeongbokgung and Seochon
Make Gyeongbokgung the anchor and use Seochon for a meal or café. This changes the atmosphere without multiplying the number of districts, which can feel easier on a first day.
The Gwanghwamun area also leaves room for an indoor alternative. Rain or an event can still change the practical order.
Make solo travel easier
A solo itinerary does not need a compulsory next stop. Decide where you can pause, where you will return to the subway and which indoor place can absorb a change in weather. That small amount of slack is part of the plan.
Before you go
-
Compare the number of transfers from your accommodation to the first stop.
-
Keep one lunch and one café candidate rather than booking a whole chain of stops.
-
Know the return station and a rainy-day indoor backup.

Gangnam cafés by purpose: dessert and photos or work and quiet?
In Gangnam, narrow café choices by purpose—dessert, photos, work or quiet—before choosing a neighbourhood.
Gangnam city tour bus or self-guided transfers? Check current operation first
Do not choose the Gangnam city tour bus on convenience alone; compare its current route and operating days with self-guided transfers for your date.

Gangnam's four areas work better as selected destination clusters with separate transfers than as one continuous walk.
