A driving trip report moved from Tongyeong to Geoje after a morning in Tongyeong and drove about 1 hour from Dara Park to the entrance of Mundong Waterfall on Geoje, passing through downtown Tongyeong; with a car, the island crossing can be added on the same day.

The summer review calls the express bus the most convenient way from Seoul, reporting about 3.5 hours from Central City to Tongyeong Bus Terminal at a fare in the 20,000-won range. The same reviewer found the KTX took longer because of the transfer at Jinju station. One planning guide allows about 4 hours from Seoul with a KTX plus bus combination; whichever you pick, plan the day around travel taking close to half of it.

Reservations for express and intercity buses go through sites such as KOBUS (express buses) or BusTago (intercity buses), both introduced by the Busan city official guide. Going via Busan widens the options: one record covers a direct bus from Sasang Terminal to Tongyeong, 1 hour 30 minutes for ₩12,400 (2022), and another covers Busan to Gohyeon in about 1 hour for ₩8,200 (2019). The official Busan guide’s destination lists for the Nopo and Sasang terminals also include Tongyeong and Geoje (Gohyeon). Fix your departure time first, and book the return ticket in advance too, since one guide warns that the last buses Friday through Sunday often sell out early.

Tongyeong Cable Car and Dongpirang: booking and closure conditions

The official numbers: a 1,975-meter line installed on Mireuksan, about 9 minutes to the upper station. Fares, as stated in the September 2026 data, are ₩17,000 round trip for adults, ₩13,000 for children and ₩14,000 for seniors, and ₩13,500 one way for adults. The closure is the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, and the same notice says exact operating hours and the maintenance schedule are to be checked on the official website.

Queuing is the unpredictable part. One 2022 trip report arrived shortly after opening, took a number, and waited to be called in groups of about 60; a summer review booked on the official app the night before and boarded without waiting, yet still saw lines of more than 1 hour at the site. For both the cable car and the luge, one guide says buying an online QR ticket in advance lets you skip the line, so in peak season finish the booking first. The same source lists the luge 2-ride pass at ₩27,000 for adults, operating 09:30–18:00.

Dongpirang’s hill is steeper than it looks, and one guide notes you walk about 15 minutes from the cable car’s upper station to the observatory, so pick your shoes before you set out. One trip report found it much smaller than Busan’s Gamcheon Culture Village and easier on the legs, with a view over the harbor from the pavilion at the top, an assessment that supports the walk.

To skip the on-site queue, buy a cable car round trip bundled with Dipirang or the Adventure Tower in advance; it lists at about KRW 23,200 and is the package we could verify as covering one round trip on the Mireuksan line, which is this day’s biggest time risk. A ticket does not override the closure on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month, and the ride stops in bad weather, so check the operating notice for your date before paying. A half day in Geoje: the Oedo cruise or Windy Hill

Geoje’s official tourism guide presents a day course and a 2-day course, and the day course already includes Windy Hill/Sinseondae together with Geoje Haegeumgang/Oedo. Add the crossing from Tongyeong to Geoje, though, and the Oedo cruise needs that half day. One 2021 record took the Dojangpo round trip via Haegeumgang to Oedo in about 2.5 hours, while a 2026 guide budgets 3–4 hours for the same course including the return crossing; a free afternoon only on day 2 is a tight fit.

Cost records disagree by travel date: one record puts the ferry plus Oedo admission at ₩28,000 total (used in 2021), and another at ₩30,000 (2019); set your budget in this range and confirm the current fare at the harbor ticket office. Operating conditions matter as much: the cruise can be cancelled on the day in bad weather, and weekend waits in peak season can exceed 1–2 hours, which is why a phone check at the pier the day before and advance booking are both raised; the same source warns that food inside Oedo is kiosk-level, so bring snacks.

Without a car, the bus headway becomes the constraint. One 2019 record caught the number 55 bus from Gohyeon to Dojangpo at 9:00 and found the next departure was 11:05, and the same trip report notes the service was infrequent with poor signage, which pushed its day behind. When the cruise feels like too much, the alternative is to narrow the day to Windy Hill and Sinseondae. Geoje’s official introduction lists the two among Geoje’s nine scenic views, gives their location as Galgot-ri in Nambu-myeon, and describes the seascape of islands and colored rocks seen from the observatory, while editorial material lists Windy Hill and Sinseondae as free to enter.
