Choose Gapyeong for a park-and-ferry day at Nami Island. Choose Chuncheon for a city-and-lake day centred on the Samaksan Lake Cable Car. The rail figures are planning snapshots, not open tickets. Search the exact date in Korail before paying. Local bus or taxi fares, meals and optional activities are additional. If you pick Gapyeong, Klook sells the Nami Island admission ticket for a chosen date. The adult gate price is 19,000 won; the Klook ticket is valid only on the date you pick, must be shown at the main gate by 18:00 and can be refunded until it is used.
Gapyeong sample day
- 07:30–08:30: reserved ITX from Yongsan to Gapyeong; use the exact booked departure.
- 09:00–09:30: transfer to the wharf and board the next ferry. The regular official schedule starts at 08:00 and ends at 21:00, with seasonal additions; check the dated schedule.
- 09:30–14:00: walk or cycle on Nami Island and eat there or by the wharf.
- 14:00–15:00: ferry and transfer back to Gapyeong Station.
- After 15:00: return to Seoul, or add only one place whose current transport you have already confirmed.
Do not promise Nami Island, the Garden of Morning Calm and a rail bike in one independent day. Completed travelers repeatedly describe the three-stop version as transport-heavy; one DIY account reached Nami early, stayed about two hours and then made a 15:00 rail-bike slot. That is an example of tight sequencing, not a universal timetable.
Chuncheon sample day
- 07:30–09:00: reserved ITX from Yongsan to Chuncheon.
- 09:15–10:15: take bus 16 toward the cable car. The operator publishes roughly 30-minute headways and about 50 minutes from Chuncheon Station; check the live bus.
- 10:30–13:00: standard or crystal round trip, viewing deck and short walk if open. The operator closes ticketing one hour before the day’s closing time.
- 13:30–16:30: return toward central Chuncheon for one meal and a lakeside or market walk.
- 17:00 onward: return by the train you actually reserved.
The 2026 operator table lists standard adult round trip at KRW 24,000 and crystal at KRW 28,000. Hours vary by month and Saturday, and weather or the safety-inspection day can stop operation.
What three completed trips add
A completed Nami report found the short ferry and bicycle useful and considered half a day enough, but visited by car on a summer Sunday. A completed Samaksan review emphasized the view and the cabin choice. A DIY Gapyeong discussion showed that early arrival makes independent travel workable while combining several timed attractions quickly becomes tiring. These experiences support the route shapes; official operators still control current fares, hours and closures.
Decision rule
Pick Gapyeong when the ferry, tree-lined paths and a lower fixed cost are the point. Pick Chuncheon when a long lake crossing and a city meal justify the higher admission and longer local bus. If the weather closes the cable car, Chuncheon needs a city backup; if ferry conditions or crowds undermine Nami, Gapyeong needs a mainland backup. Re-run the exact train and local route on the travel date.
