Chuseok with Kids: Build a Seoul-Area Day from Official Hours

A Chuseok family plan should begin with that year’s official holiday table, not a venue’s normal weekly hours. The 2026 schedule is a worked example: Seoul’s holiday table covered September 24–27, with Chuseok Day on September 25. Several city museums and traditional spaces stay open, while some facilities close specifically on Chuseok Day. A family day works best on one transit axis with one anchor.

Three plans that match the 2026 notice

The city notice also lists Seoul Museum of History and several branches as open throughout the holiday. By contrast, the Hanyangdoseong Historic Site Museum, its Hyehwa information center and Nodeul Island close on Chuseok Day, September 25. “Open over the holiday” and “open on Chuseok Day” are different checks.

Set one anchor and leave the rest optional

Planning calculation, checked October 20, 2026: for a city museum or hanok day, allow 30 minutes for the final transit connection, 150 minutes at the anchor, 60 minutes for a meal, 60 minutes for one optional nearby stop, and 30 minutes of child-pace buffer. That is 5.5 hours before the trip back. For Korean Folk Village, replace the optional stop with more time inside the village; the cross-city transfer is the part to remove.

Use the booking or event page again on the morning of travel. Program capacity, rain plans and individual workshops can differ even when the venue itself is open. Save the Korean venue name and the return station before leaving.

What three completed family visits add

상급지와 상한가’s June 2025 Korean Folk Village visit found that the site needs a map, involves substantial walking and becomes busier on weekends; the writer’s practical lesson is to arrive early and choose performances from the day’s schedule. It is not evidence for current prices or Chuseok crowds.

For an indoor fallback, Yugacrew preserves individual completed accounts. 브레인’s COEX Aquarium visit found that a child lingered at the large tanks and touch zone. 또땀’s visit on the same reviewed page used the show timetable and booked the boat experience before the performance. Those experiences support checking the day’s program first; they do not establish 2026 Chuseok opening, which must come from the venue’s current page.

Once the venue confirms it is open, Klook sells SEA LIFE COEX Aquarium tickets by date. On 26 October an autumn-promotion ticket cost 21,700 won and could not be cancelled, while the standard 26,500-won ticket allowed cancellation under its stated conditions. On a holiday date that might still change, the standard ticket is the safer choice.

Use the date, not a generic holiday rule

• Sep 25: choose a venue explicitly shown open on Chuseok Day.
• Sep 26: the free Seoul Baekje Museum event is the clearest dated family anchor in the city notice.
• Korean Folk Village: reserve the day for the village and recheck weather-related changes.
• Any other year: discard these dates and reopen that year’s official holiday table.
