The 2026 Chuseok rail sale has ended, so its dates are history rather than a timetable for the next holiday. It still gives a useful warning: KORAIL reported selling 1.8 million of 2.14 million supplied seats during the special sale. If a future Chuseok trip depends on an intercity train, wait for that year’s official notice and secure the return journey before treating the itinerary as fixed.

Start with the journey you cannot move

Protect the leg tied to an international flight, hotel checkout or work date first. Search the exact origin, destination and date on KORAIL’s official channel. Then check whether SRT from Suseo serves the useful corridor on its separate official booking channel. A greyed-out date before the special sale does not prove that every seat is sold; holiday trains can be removed from the normal booking window until the announced sale.

The 2026 general KORAIL sale ran September 7–11 from 07:00 to 13:00, divided by line. Those dates do not carry over. For the next holiday, read the new notice for the travel period, line-specific sale day, payment deadline and rules for unclaimed seats.

If rail does not work, search the bus by terminal

KOBUS is the official express-bus channel. Bustago covers many intercity terminals and says that some routes or terminals may instead require another operator or an on-site purchase. Search the real departure and arrival terminals, not only the city names. Seoul has several terminals, and a different terminal can change both seat availability and the transfer across the city.

Keep three checks together:

  1. Is the route express or intercity?
  2. Which terminal does it actually use?
  3. Can the selected channel issue a mobile ticket, or must the ticket be collected?

A bus seat does not guarantee a normal arrival time during the holiday road peak. Do not place a tight flight or last-train connection immediately after the scheduled bus arrival.

Use a fallback ladder, not repeated refreshing alone

Completed travelers describe three workable fallbacks. One traveler booked a Chuseok bus about three weeks ahead after train uncertainty. Another could not find the desired through bus and instead returned to Seoul early, then changed to a confirmed train with a long buffer. A traveler with a fixed international schedule chose a domestic flight from Busan to Seoul for peace of mind. These are dated experiences, not promises that the same inventory or price will exist.

Before paying

Match the passenger name and document fields, read the payment deadline, save the booking lookup details, and check the cancellation terms shown for the exact ticket. If a foreign card or phone field fails, do not assume the seat is held until the official channel shows a completed reservation.

For an airport connection, return to Seoul or the airport area a day earlier when the consequence of delay is high. A cheaper ticket is poor value if holiday traffic makes the connection fragile.
