Start with the trips you want to avoid repeating
For a first car-free stay built around the historic centre and evening walks, begin your search between Hwangnidan-gil, Daereungwon and the intercity/express bus terminals. Choose Bomun Tourist Complex when its hotel facilities and lakeside area are the reason for staying there. Prioritise the Gyeongju Station (KTX) area only when a late arrival or early departure matters more than reducing local travel during the visit.
Stay central for historic sights and evenings
The Korea Tourism Organization page updated in March 2026 defines Hwangnidan-gil (황리단길) around Hwangnam-dong and Sajeong-dong, near Daereungwon Tomb Complex (대릉원) and Cheomseongdae Observatory (첨성대). Gyeongju City’s map shows bus 10 linking the terminals, Hwangnidan-gil and Bomun; bus 710 links Gyeongju Station (경주역), the terminals, Hwangnidan-gil, Donggung and Wolji and Bomun.
Do not limit the search to the busiest stretch of Hwangnidan-gil. Compare the property’s actual entrance with your first planned attraction and the stop you would use after the evening itinerary; a neighbourhood label in a listing is not precise enough.
Pick Bomun when you plan to use Bomun
Gyeongju City’s official itinerary describes hotels, condominiums and leisure facilities spread around Bomun Lake. It recommends cars or bicycles for the wide complex but says the complex can also be reached by bus; the bus 10 guide includes the terminals, central sights, Bomun and stops in front of hotels and condominiums.
Car-free access does not make the whole trip walkable. Decide which facility you will actually use, then match the property to its stop and the return journey after dinner or an evening walk.
Treat the KTX station as a gateway
On the official map, bus 710 runs from Gyeongju Station through the terminals and Hwangnidan-gil before continuing to Bomun. That shows a transport connection; it does not put the station, historic centre and Bomun in one walking area.
If a late arrival or early departure makes a station-area property useful, verify the walk from the station exit, the check-in deadline, whether a bus operates at the required arrival or departure time, and a fallback before booking. If both your daytime and evening plans are central, compare station access on arrival and departure with the repeated local travel created by staying at the railway gateway.
Check the pin before booking the room
Once you have chosen an area, put the exact entrance, nearest stop and route back from the last activity on one map. For the selected room, check the check-in deadline, luggage storage and cancellation conditions before booking.
A published route map does not guarantee the service or arrival time on your travel date. Check live Gyeongju bus information shortly before leaving.

Three real stays and a door-to-door test
A completed two-day trip stayed between Hwangnidan-gil and Daereungwon and walked to dinner and the night sights. Another traveler stayed at a town-centre hotel and walked to Woljeonggyo after sunset. A 2026 trip chose the intercity bus, found the terminal close to the hotel and used the centre as the base. These are individual stays, but all three show why the centre works when evening walking matters.
Test the booking against two representative journeys before paying:

The official route pages do not publish one dependable “last bus” for every hotel. That is the reason to check the live stop-level result on the travel date rather than printing a false universal cutoff. If the final bus shown for your hotel leaves before the end of the night plan, the area fails the test.
