Suggested Routes

Day 1 — Namba & Dotonbori area (arrival day) Kansai Airport → Namba (Nankai Rapi:t) → hotel check-in → Dotonbori Glico sign & Ebisubashi → Shinsaibashi arcade → evening Dotonbori night views. Dotonbori to Shinsaibashi is a walking route.

Day 2 — Using the Amazing Pass (core downtown, compact) Osaka Castle → Kuromon Market (lunch) → Shinsekai & Tsutenkaku → Naniwa-no-Yu or the River Cruise → Umeda Floating Garden (sunset & night views). Moving around via the Osaka Metro works fine.

Day 3 — Remaining Umeda or USJ + departure Morning: Umeda (Yodobashi, Grand Front) or Namba’s Yasaka Shrine and Hozenji. Afternoon: head to the airport from Namba via the Rapi:t.

USJ placement tip If you slot USJ into Day 2, scale the other downtown sightseeing down to Day 3 morning. The combination of 1.5 days downtown + 1 day at USJ gives the highest satisfaction. USJ means arriving before opening (open-run), and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Super Nintendo World may require an Express Pass or a timed-entry ticket.

Food & Cafés

  • Takoyaki: Kureoru (くれおーる) Dotonbori branch, Acchichi Honpo (あっちち本舗). Crispy outside, creamy inside.
  • Okonomiyaki & Monjayaki: Mizuno (美津の), Fukutaro, Chibo. Within walking distance of Namba.
  • Kushikatsu: Daruma Dotonbori branch, Yaekatsu Shinsekai. “Never double-dip in the sauce” is essential etiquette.
  • Street food: Grilled scallops, eel, tamagoyaki, and strawberries at Kuromon Market.
  • Umeda department-store food halls are also an excellent choice.

Transport & Access (Tips for International Visitors)

  • Airport→Namba: If you have lots of luggage, the reserved-seat Rapi:t (about 34–38 min, ¥1,490) is preferable; for value, the Airport Express (about 50 min, ¥970).
  • Airport→Umeda: A limousine bus, or the Metro via a Namba transfer. Limousine times vary when traffic is heavy.
  • Downtown: Centered on the Osaka Metro. Tapping an ICOCA/Suica IC card is convenient. If you visit several places in one day, the Amazing Pass pays off.
  • Tax-free shopping: Present your passport for purchases of ¥5,000 or more per store per day.
  • Readers from Taiwan & Hong Kong: For exchanging yuan or Hong Kong dollars, in-city financial institutions/ATMs (7-Eleven for foreign cards) are better than Namba or the airport.
  • Prepare an eSIM/pocket Wi-Fi and travel insurance in advance. Free Wi-Fi downtown is limited.

Tips & Cautions

  • 2 nights/3 days means about 1.5–2 days of actual sightseeing. If you’re too greedy, you’ll spend it all just moving around.
  • USJ Express Passes sell out weeks in advance during popular seasons. Buy only from the official site or official partners.
  • We recommend confirming before your visit whether the Umeda Floating Garden is treated as free on the Amazing Pass.
  • The Osaka e-Pass excludes transport, so if you’re moving around a lot, the Amazing Pass is better.

FAQ

Q. How much is the Osaka Amazing Pass? A. As of 2026, the 1-day is ¥3,500 and the 2-day is ¥5,000. It includes unlimited Metro rides + one-time free entry to about 40 facilities.

Q. Do I really need to buy a USJ Express Pass? A. In popular seasons it’s effectively essential. It’s purchased separately from the admission ticket and sells out early, so book ahead.

Q. What’s the fastest way from the airport to Namba? A. The Nankai Rapi:t (reserved seat) takes about 34–38 min for ¥1,490. If you want value, use the Airport Express (about 50 min, ¥970).

Q. If I add USJ to a 2-night/3-day trip, what about downtown sightseeing? A. It shrinks to about 1 day downtown. We recommend 1.5 days downtown + 1 day at USJ.

Q. When should I go to Kuromon Market? A. 09:00–11:00 is the most comfortable. Most shops close around 18:00.
