Choose Yeouido for an easy picnic, Banpo for the evening setting
For a first Han River picnic, choose Yeouido and keep it simple: a mat, takeaway food and a riverside walk. Choose Banpo if the bridge and illuminated riverside are the main reason you are going. You do not need a tent, a delivery-app account or a boat ticket to enjoy either park.
A dry, comfortable day matters more than the size of the rental kit. If the ground is wet or the weather is poor, shorten the visit to a walk and an indoor meal rather than paying for gear you will not enjoy using.
| Your plan | Better starting choice | Leave out |
|---|---|---|
| Food, a mat and an easy arrival | Yeouido, near Yeouinaru Station | A complicated delivery setup |
| An evening riverside walk | Banpo | A guaranteed fountain-show promise |
| One hour cycling | Either park with a staffed rental station | A large kit left unattended while riding |
| A winter afternoon | A short walk and food indoors | A pop-up tent picnic |
Bring a mat before deciding on a tent
A mat is light, needs little setup and leaves you free of rental pickup and return times. A tent is restricted to designated permitted areas, and hiring one does not give permission to pitch it anywhere.
As checked on 1 October 2026, Seoul’s 2026 notice allows shade tents during March–November. The autumn extension specifically permits 09:00–22:00 from 1 September to 30 November 2026; the older 19:00 autumn line remains lower down that page. This is a dated extension, not a year-round closing time. Outside the stated tent season, choose a mat instead. For permitted size, location and removal instructions, follow the current notice and posted park signs.
Private rental kits come with a separate return deadline. The Picnic109 English listing describes four-hour rentals and a pickup address at 41 Sinbanpo-ro 23-gil, 1F, Jamwon Shopping Center. That is a shop address, not a promise of delivery to your mat. A displayed product description is not enough to establish your day’s availability, final price or cancellation terms; those belong to the selected option before payment. For a short first visit, bring a mat and avoid those extra decisions.
Food without a local delivery-app setup
Buy takeaway on the way or use a park convenience store. The noodle-machine experience normally means cooking packet noodles in a supplied heat-safe container at the shop’s machine, not boiling noodles with your own stove on the lawn. Carry the finished food carefully and dispose of the container properly.

Three original accounts illustrate workable approaches. scrambleddiaries, in a Yeouido post edited on 25 February 2025, described vendors handing out food menus and the option to rent a mat. zgmanz, in a Banpo post in 2025, described renting equipment near Express Bus Terminal and pointed visitors without delivery apps toward takeaway options. ReadyGo, in a Taiwanese account published on 17 May 2025, described a cherry-blossom-season visit using CU noodles and takeaway boneless chicken on a mat.
With each approach, a delivery driver does not need to find your exact place on the lawn. The 2025 Banpo author’s tent-season wording is older than the 2026 city notice, so it should not determine your tent hours.
If you do order delivery, select a marked delivery zone, not a vague lawn location. Seoul’s September 2026 expansion lists four Yeouido zones and two Banpo zones. Use the app’s corresponding location and go there to collect the order; do not direct a motorcycle to your picnic mat. If your account, contact number or card cannot complete an order, takeaway is the useful fallback.
Cycling: the small-group cost comparison
Using Seoul’s published tariff on 1 October 2026, one ordinary bike for one hour is KRW 3,300 and a tandem is KRW 6,600. Two individual bikes therefore cost exactly the same as one tandem for that hour. A family bike is KRW 20,000 and is listed for two adults with one or two children; it should not be treated as a bike for four adults.

| Group and one-hour option | Calculated total | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Two ordinary bikes | 2 × 3,300 = KRW 6,600 | Separate control, same cost as a tandem |
| One tandem | KRW 6,600 | Choose the shared riding experience |
| Family bike, eligible family configuration | KRW 20,000 | Pay for that configuration, not an assumed group discount |

For March–October, the published main-station schedule lists Banpo 10:00–20:00 and Yeouido 10:00–21:00, subject to weather. The kiosk procedure includes a phone-number field. Ask staff how to complete it with your number before assuming a foreign visitor can rent entirely through the kiosk. Keep the receipt for return and any overtime settlement.
A compact arrival and evening plan
At Yeouido, start from Yeouinaru Station on Line 5, rather than assuming the similarly named Yeouido Station is the same entrance. Choose a nearby shop, collect food, settle on a mat and leave time to pack up before the return train.
For Banpo, Seoul lists an approximately 15-minute walk from Express Bus Terminal exits 8-1/8-2, toward the bridge. Equipment collection adds time before this approach. Start with food and a walk, then decide whether to stay after dark.

The Moonlight Rainbow Fountain is seasonal and can stop for wind, rain or river-water conditions. If the fountain stops, keep the plan to the illuminated riverside walk rather than another paid activity you must rush to book. A cruise has its own pier, boarding time and ticket; do not assume a Banpo picnic automatically connects to a Yeouido sailing.

What can change before your trip
Check rain and river-access notices, the current fountain notice if that is your main goal, and any rental option’s exact contents, shop pickup, return time and cancellation terms. Festivals can bring crowd controls, so they need their own dated plan. Avoid an old fireworks date or an old tent deadline copied into an ordinary picnic itinerary.
For most visitors, a complete picnic is simple: buy food, put down a mat, take a short walk and leave the park as clean as you found it.
