Sokcho Attractions: 10 Places for a Day Trip and Food Stops

Sokcho is easiest to plan by separating the downtown market, coast, lagoons and Gaetbae ferry from the Seoraksan and Cheoksan area. The ten places below are comparison choices, not a popularity ranking. The operating and fare details were checked against the official pages on September 22, 2026, while weather, shop hours and date-specific programs still belong to the visit-day check.

Start with the market, but do not assign every shop one schedule

Sokcho Tourist and Fishery Market is introduced on the city tourism page as a food and market area with free entry. Its parking guidance and parking validation conditions are separate from individual stall hours, so check the market operator before departure and the shop notice on the day.

The market works as a place to eat on site or take food back to your accommodation. Pick a dish only after checking that stall’s current opening status, stock and price. The official market website is the right place to confirm operator information.

Yeongeumjeong, the lighthouse and Cheongchoho

Yeongeumjeong is listed by the city as an all-hours coastal attraction. Treat it as a shore walk around the rocks, pavilion and bridge, and check the sunrise time for your travel date rather than promising one fixed time.

Sokcho Lighthouse Observatory is described as the first of Sokcho’s eight scenic views and operates 09:00–17:00 in the cited tourism guide. Keep it as a separate timed stop instead of treating Yeongeumjeong and the observatory as one facility.

Cheongchoho is the lake walk. Expo Tower beside it is 73.4 m and lists 09:00–22:00 operation with last entry at 21:30. If you arrive after the market, leave room before the tower’s entry cutoff.

Gaetbae, the beach and Daepohang

The Gaetbae is an engine-free ferry pulled by a hook and rope. Sokcho’s official English walking map lists KRW 500 per person, about 5 minutes and card-only payment. Bring a card and keep the following Abai Village meal flexible because restaurant waits and hours vary.

Sokcho Beach’s current city program is called Light Sea Sokcho. The official notice lists Friday and Saturday operation with monthly start times that change, so check the notice for the month of travel. The Ferris wheel should be treated as a separate availability check rather than assumed from a beach view.

Daepohang is introduced as a large tourist fishing harbor where visitors can combine seafood with a breakwater and lighthouse walk. The harbor itself is free and available at all times in the city guide, while meal prices and business hours are shop-specific.

Add Seoraksan as a separate block

Sokcho’s transport information lists buses 7 and 7-1 between the intercity bus terminal and Seoraksan. Dispatch intervals and arrival times vary, so do not attach the mountain to a fixed downtown morning without checking the current route information.

The official Seorak Cable Car guide lists an adult fare of KRW 16,000 for a round trip, no one-way ticket, same-day on-site purchase and no advance reservation. Operation depends on the day’s weather and notice. Parking and the conditions for entering Sogongwon or cultural-heritage areas should be checked separately.

The city describes Seoul–Sokcho express and intercity buses as taking around two hours, but traffic can change the trip, so check the departure and road conditions on the day. This is enough to plan the arrival window without turning a variable journey into a guaranteed return time.

Rain, a foot bath and a short lake walk

Cheoksan Foot Bath Park is free but seasonal. The official city page lists March–November operation and December–February closure, with summer hours 09:00–17:30 and winter hours 10:00–17:30.

The National Mountain Museum lists 09:00–18:00 operation with Monday and some holiday closures; check its current admission notice before relying on it as a free stop. Sokcho City Museum lists 09:00–18:00 from March through October and 09:00–17:00 from November through February, with Monday and January 1 closures and adult, youth or service-member and child fee ranges shown by the city.

Yeongnangho’s official barefoot trail choices are 420 m and 840 m, open 09:00–18:00 and free. Use the length and operating hours to choose a short walk rather than importing an unverified personal time estimate.

A day trip route that keeps the zones clear

One workable downtown sequence is the market, Yeongeumjeong and the lighthouse, Cheongchoho and Expo Tower, then Gaetbae and Abai Village, with Daepohang as an optional evening stop. Keep the market, coast, lake and ferry within the downtown itinerary, and put Seoraksan or Cheoksan in separate transport blocks.
