If your day starts at Hakata Station and you want several hours in Nagasaki before returning, take the Relay Kamome and Kamome train. JR Kyushu lists a fastest Hakata–Nagasaki journey of 1 hour 20 minutes. If you are staying near Tenjin and saving money matters more than the shortest transfer, compare the direct Kyushugo bus: Nishitetsu lists 2 hours 7 minutes from Tenjin Bus Terminal to Nagasaki Station, and the one-way adult fare is ¥2,900. These times start at different places, so include your journey to Hakata or Tenjin in the comparison.

The bus round-trip ticket saves ¥3,600 against two ¥4,500 train tickets. That calculation assumes the same train discount fare in both directions. A separate ¥9,000 four-ride web bus ticket is for four journeys; it is not a ¥2,250 one-way fare sold for a single journey.
Which Kyushugo departure should you book?
Kyushugo serves Hakata Bus Terminal and Nishitetsu Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal; some trips also stop at Fukuoka Airport International Terminal or Ureshino. The super-nonstop and all-stop patterns do not share every stop, and the seats are reserved. Check the exact departure stop and intermediate stops for your date, especially if Ureshino is the destination.
Experiences show why one anecdote is not a timetable. A Tenjin super-nonstop passenger in April 2026 reached Nagasaki roughly five to six minutes late. A different October 2023 passenger reported the coach filled after the airport pickup but arrived on time. In an undated Kamome return account, a traveler found their train about half full; this says nothing about your departure. A promotional 2020 travelogue describes using an all-stop bus after a storm stopped rail services and alighting at Peace Park twelve minutes later than its 10:08 posted time. These accounts describe individual trips, not a schedule promise.
Keep the web ticket open until you leave the bus
The bus operator tells passengers to state their name and seat number and present the ticket when boarding. It also describes collecting the fare or ticket when getting off. One April 2026 passenger with a web ticket was asked to present it again on arrival, so keep the page available until you step off. A SUNQ Pass holder still needs a seat reservation for Kyushugo.
The train takes the Relay Kamome to Takeo-Onsen and the Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen Kamome onward to Nagasaki. The quoted ¥4,500 is JR Kyushu’s specified Kamome Net Ticket, not a promise that every train and sales channel has that fare. If you use a JR Kyushu Rail Pass, check your pass’s area and seat reservation conditions separately.
When is a day trip still sensible?
For a short day, work backwards from your return train and the place you want to see in Nagasaki; the train’s official fastest running time preserves more of the day. For an overnight stay, a Tenjin departure makes the direct bus and ¥5,400 round-trip ticket more appealing. Nagasaki Kunchi is held 7–9 October each year; if you are travelling for a timed performance, check that year’s programme and allow for road delays before committing to a bus arrival.
