Keep the main activity, then cut what rain makes less appealing
For ordinary rain, consider keeping Marine World’s exhibits and dropping the park, shortening the Itoshima coast visit, or keeping the Yanagawa boat ride if you still want to go. If the main attraction has lost its appeal, a city day is a reasonable replacement. Check closures and transport disruption first; an operator’s suspension notice takes priority over these itinerary suggestions.

Decide what is worth keeping
At Marine World, the main building has the open-ocean tank and jellyfish exhibits, while Kaiju Island is explicitly an outdoor area. Start with the exhibits and lunch, then return to Fukuoka if the outdoor afternoon no longer appeals. For the fuller original plan, see Marine World and Uminonakamichi Park.
From Hakata, change at Kashii to the JR Kashii Line towards Saitozaki and leave the train at Uminonakamichi. The tourism office lists a five-minute walk from the station to the aquarium. Bring rain protection rather than treating this as a station-connected indoor outing. Marine World warns that typhoons, lightning and other severe weather can cause changed hours or closure without notice. Check its opening calendar before setting off.
At Itoshima’s Futamigaura, the attraction is the beach and paired rocks offshore. If the sea was the reason to go, another day may suit you better. If you already booked a meal you still want, consider keeping that and shortening the coast visit. For a booked tour, ask the seller whether the proposed change is possible; do not treat a group itinerary as your own flexible transfer. Use the Itoshima transport guide and Showa Bus notices to check the return as well as the outward trip.
Yanagawa Kanko Kaihatsu supplies ponchos in light rain and says heavy rain may suspend the boats. Rain alone does not establish that your sailing is cancelled. Through 15 September 2026, the summer return-to-origin course uses a special timetable, with no boats from 10:40 to 15:40 because of the heat; 16 September is a closure day. Open the summer notice before using the ordinary Yanagawa and Dazaifu plan.
Check the booking channel before pressing cancel
As checked in September 2026, Yanagawa Kanko Kaihatsu’s direct-booking terms allow free cancellation up to three days before, then charge 25% two days before, 50% one day before and 100% on the day. Weather cancellation by the operator receives a full refund; its suspension terms also offer a refund or date change. These are that operator’s direct terms. Ask the seller about your specific reservation if you booked through a tour company.
For the Dazaifu–Yanagawa Sightseeing Ticket (太宰府・柳川観光きっぷ), two official pages describe refunds differently: the boat company’s FAQ says no refund, while Nishitetsu’s my route digital-ticket page permits unused-ticket refunds within validity under railway rules. Send the seller the ticket type and whether it has been activated or used. Do not infer a refund for a partially used bundle.
If you are keeping the aquarium and still need admission, compare the Marine World admission option on Klook. It is for the selected date and excludes transport and meals. The English package table lists free cancellation before 16:00 on the previous day, then no refund. However, the Korean and Traditional Chinese pages also contain a conflicting statement that purchases cannot be cancelled or changed. For an existing booking, check its voucher and obtain Klook support’s applicable terms; for a new booking where flexibility matters, resolve that conflict before paying. The excerpt does not specify the cutoff’s timezone, so ask about that too.
Replace the outing with one connected city area
For a Hakata day, try food and souvenir shopping at DEITOS, then a break in AMU’s basement cafés, with more browsing only if you want it; these facilities appear in the station complex’s floor guide. KITTE Hakata is connected by an underground passage continuing from Hakata Station’s underground shopping area. Use that connection if you extend the outing, and separately check the walk between your hotel and the station.
For a Tenjin day, start at Tenjin or Tenjin-minami subway station and use the directly connected underground mall for shopping and a meal. Chun Shui Tang in West 6th Avenue is one concrete café stop inside the mall. General shop hours are 10:00–20:00 and restaurant hours 10:00–21:00, with individual exceptions. Choose one area rather than making both a requirement. These routes are ordinary-rain suggestions; during severe weather, follow local closure and access restrictions before attempting them.
